Before using:
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Carafate 1 gm .
Inform your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking Carafate 1 gm .
Additional monitoring of your dose or condition may be needed if you are taking penicillamine, or if you have kidney
disease and are also taking citrate salts (found in some calcium supplements, antacids, and laxatives).
Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or
pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using Carafate 1 gm .
Carafate 1 gm Directions:
Follow the directions for using Carafate 1 gm provided by your doctor.
Shake well before taking a dose. Take Carafate 1 gm on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating.
Do not take antacids for at least 30 minutes before or after taking Carafate 1 gm .
Store Carafate 1 gm at room temperature, away from heat and light. Avoid freezing Carafate 1 gm .
If you miss a dose of Carafate 1 gm , take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Carafate 1 gm Cautions:
It may take 4 to 8 weeks for complete healing of your ulcer.
Continue taking Carafate 1 gm for the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, check with your doctor.
Before you begin taking any new medicine, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist.

A side effect, that may go away during treatment, is constipation.
